Shalma Auckbaraullee is the heart and soul behind La Main Dans La Main, a non-profit organization with a legacy of over 26 years in empowering immigrants and building inclusive communities. With a deep-rooted passion for supporting others, Shalma founded this organization to help newcomers find their place and thrive in their new homes.
Born in the UK, raised in Canada, and later establishing her life in Mauritius, Shalma's personal journey has greatly shaped her unwavering commitment to community support. She currently lives between Canada and Mauritius, bringing her unique experiences to the forefront in all her endeavors.
In 1998, she founded La Main Dans La Main, which was officially registered as a non-profit in both Canada and Mauritius. Her dedication to newcomer support, settlement services, and social integration has impacted the lives of thousands, as she worked tirelessly for over two decades to help immigrants and build lasting community ties.
Shalma's commitment extends beyond her non-profit. She volunteered her time with the Liberal Party of Canada, advocating for women's empowerment and social justice initiatives, leading government-funded programs across Canada designed to support newcomer integration.
Her passion for empowerment was also reflected in her role as a Lifestyle Wellness Coach, where she blends personal development and well-being. This diverse background, combined with her Bachelor's degree in Business and Management, Master's in Business, and professional certifications (including financial advisor, insurance advisor, and TICO licensed travel consultant), has allowed her to serve her community in meaningful ways.
After 26 years of selfless service, on December 23rd, 2023, Shalma aligned La Main Dans La Main with Iconic Immigration, marking a new chapter in her organization's growth while maintaining the non-profit spirit of the organization. This partnership brings licensed expertise to her mission, ensuring clients receive both professional immigration consulting and the compassionate, community-focused support that has always been at the heart of her work.
Known for her unwavering stance against emotional and sexual violence, Shalma is a thoughtful writer who shares her insights on social justice, family manipulation, religious extremism, and women's rights. She uses her voice to advocate for those who may feel silenced and strives to inspire action through her writing and advocacy.
